156A Week 10
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
For the risk reduction, we are prioritizing using disposable/replaceable parts
disposable blood capsule dispenser
conveyor belt can take capsules with dispenser attached
Using kapton tape as a continuous sleeve for the smearing mechanism
Successfully tested kapton mechanism and ensured minimal contamination occurs
Compiled list of motors/parts that can be used in the device
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Selected a few liquids and materials to potentially test
Began CADs and finding motors to fit the needs of the project
Set-up a game plan for the risk reduction
Determined that using horse blood does not require blood safety training
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
All: Perform Risk Reduction experiments
Cindy: set-up web page, Blood dispensing mechanism
Kevin: Develop housing unit for tape mechanism for smearer
Marco: Develop CAD for motion of the smearer
Christopher: set-up pay
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Meeting in person on 3/6/2019
Prefer disposable methods- top priority
Cost of disposable film is okay
Blood caps- about 100 caps for 30 dollars
Dr. Broome believes these are a great idea and would be great to use
We still need to find a space for blood handling- Kevin can ask Ian
Need to set up order forms for buying materials and blood capsules for modeling
A good smear is top priority: we need to focus on risk reduction before moving on to the rest of the device
Next meeting: Thursday, March 14th at 4:30pm
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Need to have clear measure for quality other than the sponsor's satisfaction
risk reduction presentation is 10 mins instead of 12
2 pg component analysis due end of quarter (may want to point out how did you test the components)
no more than 5 bullet points per slide and 5 words or less per bullet point. on the presentation tell why the information on the slide is important & don't read directly from the slide
skeleton presentation due next Tuesday
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)

Risks and Areas of Concern
How to check for carry over: make one smear with blood, then make the following two or three smears with no blood, see if there are any
Resources or Information Required but not Available
NA
Schedule
Complete risk reduction experiments
Begin final presentation
Everyone should work on individual component analysis reports
