156B Week 4
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Bluetooth LE connectivity experiment was done
Finished redesigning the electronics enclosures and 3D printed prototypes
Ordered new components
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Tested Bluetooth LE connectivity through tissue and eliminated board mounted design as a possibility
Added sewing hooks to enclosure design and made it more rounded
Determined better resolution 3D printer is need for enclosure print
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Run test motors using phone app Bluetooth LE transmitter
Experiment coating the enclosure with the liquid silicon we purchased
Design new enclosure based off of comments from sponsor and instructor
Begin testing battery capacity and formulating a power budget throughout the lengthening procedure
Complete the Proof of Concept Presentation
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
All comments made during sponsor meeting on 4/25/19
Get ride of empty space in enclosures to further minimize designs
Conduct more Bluetooth LE connectivity tests using the purchased meat to get error bars on current data
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
All comments made during instructor meeting on 4/25/19
Meet with surgeon and ask, "In your experience..." questions
Use UV light to ensure proper silicone coating is applied
Have a theoretical power budget in report to compare with experimentally determined power budget
Back up enclosure designs not only using engineering intuition but also considering the human factor of the implanted system
Talk to UCSD professors to see if you can get Parylene for a cheaper price
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
No students comments this week
Risks and Areas of Concern
500 mAh battery won't be enough so we might need a bigger enclosure design (will design this just in case)
it will be difficult to control the motor using Bluetooth LE phone app
we will have to re-make the previous team's design if the sponsor can't find it
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Total energy consumption of the system
