Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Construction on exhibition test bed begun.
Experimental setup laid down at Sam's house.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Second meeting made with sponsor and successfully addressed concerns about hardware and experimental schedule
Acquired Teensy microprocessor, accelerometer, first prototype housing, power adapter from sponsors along with PVC segments
Foundation of the exhbition test bed has been constructed with wood.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Conduct FEA analysis on exhibition test bed walls Madeline
Consult with Pedro concerning FEM analyses with pipe vibration modes Bryan
Research pump offered by sponsor's (Jose) contact Gordon
Finalize purchase for aluminum materials to construct test bed upper frame Sam
Continue organization and construction of group site Gordon
Compose second draft of project report All
Include Impact on Society section
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Sponsors agreed to use Sam’s house as a testing site.
There will be 2 phases to the project. First phase will have no pump, the pipes will be tested with no surroundings (air), testbed construction will start, and we will determine whether foam is a good substitute for soil through a FEM analysis. (Actions to take: contact Pedro TA to see how to do this)
Second phase will have pump, soil or foam around the pipes, a center pole will be added to the table to support the extra weight of the soil/foam/water if needed.
Sponsors thought table out of polycarbonate, acrylic, and aluminum would be too expensive, so they agreed to purchase wood for the table and legs while we purchased the acrylic/polycarbonate and aluminum for the container that will sit on top of the table. (Actions to take: we will buy aluminum and acrylic/polycarbonate. We will perform solidworks analysis to decide whether acrylic/PC will hold the weight. Considering the test results, delivery time, and cost of each material, we will decide which to use.)
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
How will the testbed be sealed to keep in water and such. There are vibration isolators that could be used for the pump. Look into acoustic impedance for fasteners. (Actions to take: further research)
