Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
The risk reduction test proved successful. The accelerometer was able to detect vibrations from the pipe with water flowing through it. Other problems arose. It was unclear why the accelerometer readings had unusual scaling between the x,y,z axes and why some axes could not have readings at times.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
In our meeting with Steve on Tuesday (3/14) he shared expert information on using accelerometers.
In our meeting with Ian on Tuesday (3/14) he designated a workspace for us and signed our "Lab Needs" form.
In our meeting with professors on Tuesday (3/14) they helped us narrow and simplify our risk reduction test.
A rough sketch of our testbed was made on SolidWorks.
PVC piping and accessories were purchased at Home Depot for the upcoming risk reduction test.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Next week is Spring Break.
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
We did not meet with our sponsor this week.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
We did not meet with instructors this week.
We met with Steve again to address our concerns about the accelerometer. He gave us a header to better connect wire leads to the accelerometer. He helped us test our sensor on an oscilloscope and we saw that sensors in all 3 x,y, z axes worked.
Now we need to determine the offset of each of the x,y,z signals (when no acceleration was experienced, there were still readings) and look into signal amplification to overcome noise.
