Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Ordering parts for test bed construction
Choosing pump model to purchase
Designing prototype sensor module attachment
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Finalized material choices for physical test bed table
Made choice of pump type: submersible irrigation type
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Have test bed table constructed: SAM (with help from all)
Have acrylic housing constructed: BRYAN (with help from all)
Order water pump: GORDON
Design sensor attachment mechanism: MADELINE

4/6/17
Do proof of concept test with soil and foam to see if foam can replace soil for cleanliness purposes
will be the first testing attempted once the test bed is constructed
Consider using a strain gauge in addition to accelerometer and microphones
Look into turbulent transition in irrigation pipes in order to properly replicate realistic conditions for testing.
pump will be attached to a rubber hose to dampen the pump vibrations and to cause a turbulent transition before the valve.

4/5/17
Concerns about having too little pressure with the required flowrate. (In person)
Researching pump options, taking special care to document pressure and flowrate capabilities
Required: 50 psi, 23-36 gpm with 3/4" pipe
Most pumps over $100 meet requirements
Risks and Areas of Concern
Water pump pressure vs. flow rate
Waterproofing/ sealing plywood table surface, and clear acrylic housing
Testing the assumption that foam can serve as a suitable replacement for soil in test bed
Does there exist a foam that can be a clean alternative to soil with the same properties wet and dry?
Schedule
By end of week
Purchase 80/20, plywood, acrylic for test bed
Construct the test bed frame, table surface, and clear housing
Next week
Purchase water pump
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Spent: $5.95
Remaining: $2,494.02
Progress on Report and Webpage
Updated budget and individual component analysis
