Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Camera and image processing
Compare different camera (Mightex, Basler, Teli) in risk reduction and purchase Mightex USB 2.0
Design camera mounting mechanism which enables the adjustment of the FOV (Field of View)
Select the correct Lens
Chamber design
Determine the size of the chamber (width, height, and thickness)
Add diffuser to the bottom of the chamber to reduce the entrance effect
Add mesh to the pipe holes to prevent object from escaping the chamber
Individual component analysis
Damien: chamber material
Kimi: camera
Teng: tube fitting
Yuling: pump
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Finish PowerPoint for risk reduction and show it to SIO
Discussed the conceptual design of the chamber
Started CAD drawing of the chamber
Researched on tube fittings for different configurations
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Finish the CAD of the prototype and start to machine parts (Chamber)
Determine tube fitting- (Teng)
Choose materials for chamber (aluminum, Ultem, acrylic, polycarbonate - combinations?) - (Damien)
Simulate 3D velocity profile using matlab/solidworks (secondary) - (Damien)
Finish image processing code, purchase camera - (Kimi)
Purchase pump that allows for our own controller in order to achieve adequate voltage resolution - (Yuling)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Tuesday, March 17 - Met with Dr. Franks and Jessica Garwood at SIO to present Risk Reduction powerpoint
Good risk reduction on fluid analysis, pump selection, and image processing
Concerns from sponsor: possible air bubbles in the chamber that could cause problems in the flow
solution: add a valve on top of the chamber to allow air to exit
Need PID control. We are implementing customized and programmed microcontroller
Potential error in the 3D velocity profile, concerns about viscous boundary layer. Simulation of profile will be done
Mesh at the bottom of chamber/cuvette - We are looking into possible solutions
Temperature control (the water needs to be colder than the surrounding air) - This was a small area of concern and will only be addressed if time permits
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Need to select a pump without build-in controller and use Arduino or BBB to control to solve resolution issue
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
3/19 - Student commented on processing images of non-spherical shapes. We may be able to take multiple snapshots and average the shapes to determine an approximate circular surface, but our primary objective is controlling spherical objects.
