Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Ran risk reduction test and analyzed areas of concern for future design considerations
Fabricated risk reduction set-up of the mechanical release mechanism
Will present results of risk reduction to the class on March 19th
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Modified the design of the risk reduction test of the mechanical release mechanism
Purchased and machined parts for the risk reduction test and assembled the parts together
Ran the risk reduction test and analyzed modes of failure in the design
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Start on individual component analysis and begin preliminary design of individual components for final design
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Met with sponsor on March 11th, and the sponsor suggested some changes to the mechanical release mechanism we designed
The team incorporated the changes suggest by the sponsor into the risk reduction design, specifically orienting the release mechanism vertically and encasing the mechanism in piping to contain the line attached to the buoy
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Instructor suggested performing the risk reduction test upside down to simulate the buoyancy force of the buoy
The team performed the risk reduction test upside down as suggested and the test turned out to be a relative success
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)

Risks and Areas of Concern
Manufacturing processes: A significant area of concern in the risk reduction test was the presence of misalignment in the shafts and threaded rods used in the design, which means that the team must come up with a way to ensure that alignment is a non-issue through DFM analysis
