Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Our sponsor Dr. Strain volunteered to lend the entire XY stage and microscope to our workspace in EBU 2 for the remainder of the project.
So far we have taken ONLY the XY Stage
Primary goal is to tie this XY system into provided vertical motor stage, controller, and power supply.
Continuing research on methods to lift and place: Fernando and Clark will report on meeting with Professor Talke
Found a suitable camera; order has been placed in system. No image processing will be necessary.
In process of getting a Micro-Injector to test.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Initial Design Proposal and outlined tasks to Week 6.
Sponsor meeting: status update & equipment gathered
Objectives for the Upcoming Week
Full computer control of X-Y axis (using provided VI program) (greg, jonathan)
purchase serial cable adapter (greg)
verify USB COM drivers
gain an idea of precision
perform a test to measure length per step
is there accuracy over large distances? (perform a test to see if 400 counts equals same distance in one corner of the slide as the other)
CAD of assembly (laith)
(by sponsor's suggestion), meet with Professor Talke (Fernando, Clark)
present problem definition and our idea for magnetic materials
ask for feedback
'SIXPACK' controller Manual and Wiring (Everyone)
map wire diagram from output on controller board to stepper motor (z-axis)
LabView VIs (Greg)
gain insight into VI controller program
devise possible ways to incorporate third motor into same program
Be ready to test the Micro-injector when it arrives:
Mount for the Z axis or arm for tool ( Clark, Fernando )
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
We discussed taking the microscope from his lab.
Took everything but the microscope and the pneumatic table that it rests on.
Camera
Told him we were ordering a Cmount camera he approved
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Powerpoint updated to reflect instructor's comments (posted to site)
Student Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Highlights of Feedback from Design Proposal Presentation
Nanoindentors to be used for z-axis precision
Piezos could be used as sensors for depth but we are not trying to make contact with anything so this will most likely be used.
"Will the cells burst when sucked into micro-injector?"
Sponsor is doubtful this would occur
Majority consensus saw most promise in the vacuum (via microinjector) method
Risks and Areas of Concern
In meeting with Prof. Talke we will discuss our concerns regarding magnetic methods.
Schedule
Turn on the XY stage (1/31)
Understand how to use the LabView VI. (by 1/3)
Plug Z axis into the power/control box.
Figure out how we have to wire in the third axis to the SIXPACK (1/5)
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Camera
USB - Serial converter
Microinjector
