Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Analysis: Completed calculation for length of buoy for optimum buoyancy performance
Design: Finalized design for Bulkhead, Inner Housing, Position of components
Test: Testing facilities in SIO is available for test in the coming days
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Finalized Design for the Spar Buoy
Received the cell phone bought
Contacted Person in Charge of Pressure Test Chamber
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Complete design for mounting external bladder (whole Team)
Start Fabrication (Gary, Austin, Mike)
Get parts provided by Dan, our sponsor (James)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Sponsor provided four options on bulkhead designs during last sponsor meeting, and we finalized the choice by choosing axial bolts design.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
The issue raised by Dr. Tustaniwskyj about creating a vacuum when the fluid in the reservoir is transferred to the external bladder is considered, and our solution is to make the buoy to have single compartment to enlarge the space available inside the buoy to reduce the vacuum effect, so that the load on the pump can be reduced.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Risks and Areas of Concern
Axial bolts on the wall of CPVC tube will reduce effective thickness of the tube, and might reduce the strength of the buoy.
