Special Events for 2018-2019 York Orchestras

These are some of the special events which were recently part of the York Orchestra world. These are above and beyond our usual orchestra concerts.

While the specifics vary each year, we always have wonderful opportunities, during the rehearsal period and beyond!

  • October, 2018 Denison University (Ohio) Symphony Orchestra and conductor Dr. Phillip Rudd perform for and with York Orchestras during their Chicago tour.

  • October, 2018 Performances for all three orchestras by internationally renowned Czech guitarist Vladislav Blaha

  • November, 2018 York Orchestra students and parents travel to Symphony Center in Chicago to hear the Czech Philharmonic perform music of Dvorak.

  • November, 2018 York Symphony performs for all school York Veterans’ Day Ceremony

  • November, 2018 SIU-Edwardsville faculty cellist Marta Simidtchieva visits York to work with cellists from all three orchestras. More about Marta Simidtchieva

  • December, 2018 Symphony Orchestra performs with Concert Choir in Holiday program.

  • January, 2019 York Symphony Cello Ensemble performs at Illinois Music Education Conference in Peoria, Illinois

  • February, 2019 Western Illinois University Chamber Orchestra and conductor Dr. Richard Hughey perform for and with York Orchestras during their Chicago tour.

  • March, 2019 Bass player and teacher Susan Cahill (Colorado Symphony, University of Denver) visits York to perform for Symphony Orchestra and work with bass students.

  • March, 2019 York Orchestras travel to Illinois State University, have clinics with university string faculty, a TED talk with Composition professor Dr. Roy Magnuson and clinics with conductor Glenn Block, and to see a live performance of “A Light in the Piazza.”

  • April, 2019 San Jose High School Chamber Orchestra, San Jose, California, performs for and with the York Symphony as part of their Chicago tour.

  • May, 2019 York Symphony performs side-by-side with Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra under conductor Stephen Alltop.

    • May, 2019 York Symphony performs the world premiere of Matt Turner’s “Sofia’s Song,” in honor of York’s Centennial, dedicated to the memory of Sofia Haken (1995-2018), with the composer and Sofia’s parents present.
