Subject Rationale
The Investigating Science Stage 6 Syllabus is designed to assist students of all abilities engage with scientific processes, and apply those processes to investigate relevant personal, community and global scientific issues. This course shares the seven Working Scientifically outcomes with the other science subjects and delves into more depth and detail in the development of these skills. It is for this reason, that students are strongly encouraged to take it alongside other science subjects as it will complement and heighten those skills, benefitting the student in their other science subject(s). Large proportions of the course are devoted to depth studies, which can be used to develop knowledge and understanding in any field of science including the other science subjects a student takes. This course is widely acknowledged as the unofficial prerequisite for Science Extension and will also enhance the skills needed for depth studies in other science courses. Ultimately, the most beneficial aspect of this course is the development of scientific literacy for life.
