Dear Parents/Carers and Students,
The next six to nine months is an exciting time for Year 10 students as they begin to consider their senior study options and, as it looms closer and closer, life beyond school. This website has been prepared to assist Year 10 students and their families with the important decision-making process regarding subjects, as they prepare to enter Years 11 and 12 and undertake the Preliminary HSC and HSC Courses.
The transition from Stage 5 to Senior School (Stage 6) is a distinctive one. Students undertaking senior studies are making a commitment to undertake a more demanding workload and study regime. They will experience greater autonomy, but, at the same time, increased accountability. Senior students are expected to take greater responsibility for their studies, which commences with choosing the subjects they would like to study and the pathway they would like to follow.
In choosing subjects to study, in addition to the requirements set at Magdalene, attention must be given to:
(i) the external requirements which must be satisfied for the award of a Higher School Certificate or Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank
(ii) any specific prerequisites which may be required for future tertiary courses
I encourage students to explore this site carefully and read the information booklet carefully, discuss options and seek advice from staff. In choosing particular subjects, thought should be given to one’s own particular interests, ability levels, potential to meet subject demands and future pathways.
In keeping with the goals of quality Catholic education, our aim remains the development of the whole person. It is therefore expected that in addition to the academic curriculum, each student will involve themselves fully in the life of Magdalene, upholding the values and ideals we strive for, to be quality role models for junior students and fine citizens of the future.
I wish you all well in the process which will follow and remind you of the significant support which is available from our staff.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. Chris Ferry
Leader of Curriculum
