Youth Ministry

Youth Ministry at Magdalene is all about providing pathways for Magdalene students to explore, develop and continually grow in their faith. This is achieved through a range of activities run at School, Regional, Diocesan and National levels.

YMLs & LIVE Events

Magdalene in partnership with CYMW (The Youth Ministry team of the Bishop's Office and Catholic Education Wollongong) offer a number of Youth Ministry opportunities both at the College and beyond.

Opportunities include:

Youth Ministry Leaders (YMLs)

Youth Ministry Leaders are a small group of students, selected from Year 10 who have demonstrated a commitment to their faith, their school and to being a person who is able to share spiritual journeys with their peers. Youth Ministry Leaders are trained with their fellow YMLs from across the Diocese at a special training retreat / camp. This time allows for students to develop the skills to lead Youth Ministry activities at the College.

For further information about becoming a YML please see the College Principal or College Youth Ministry Coordinator.

LIVE Lunchtime

Lunchtime Live Youth Ministry sessions are short student lead Youth Ministry gatherings designed and run by our Youth Ministry Leaders. Sessions are introductory in nature and offer a friendly and relaxed environment to meet new friends and begin exploring ideas around faith and spirituality. These sessions are open to all students and are usually run three times a term.

LIVE & Verve Twilight Retreats

LIVE and Verve Twilight Retreats are held after school, open to all staff and students, commencing at 2:45pm with Afternoon tea. They cover various themes, include games, a band, guest speakers and much more. They provide an opportunity to meet new friends, develop faith and have a whole lot of fun. They generally conclude with Dinner by 6pm. Some retreats are extended in the evening, usually Friday nights with special sessions designed for Senior Students.

The LIVE & Verve retreat program is a voluntary retreat program run at Magdalene designed to provide students with opportunities to explore their own journey of faith, life and humanity. The hope is that through a series of fun, informative and relaxed experiences students can come to better know themselves, their community and ideas about faith, hope and living a good life.

The retreats do not have any assumed knowledge and are available to all Magdalene Students regardless of where they maybe in their faith journey.

Parental permission is required for students to attend as the retreats are run after normal school hours. Notes are available on the permission notes section of this website.

For further information about becoming a YML or about LIVE Lunchtime and Twilight sessions please contact the College Youth Ministry Coordinator (Mission Coordinator).
