Project Compassion Launch - (Diocese)
On Tuesday 9th of February, the Social Justice Councillors along with two representatives from Year 11 and Mr Collins travelled to Wollongong for the Project Compassion Launch for the Wollongong Diocese. Launching the appeal was Bishop Peter Ingham, Caritas Guest Speakers and CEO Wollongong Leaders. The theme for this year’s Project Compassion is “Learning More…Creating Change” and here at Magdalene we have made a strong link between this theme and raising awareness and funds for Project Laos supporting the establishment of special needs schools for intellectually disabled children in Laos. Last week Project Compassion collections started in all PC Classes with a challenge for Year Groups to compete to see which Year Group raises the most. Currently Year 9 are out in front – you can keep an eye on the Tally via the new Mission Website - https://sites.google.com/a/dow.catholic.edu.au/mission/projects. Collections will continue through out the term on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays.

Project Compassion - School Wide PC Lesson
All PC Classes across the school spent the PC lesson exploring the Caritas Project we are supporting. They watched videos on Project Compassion in 2016 and the work of Caritas in the country
of Laos with kids with intellectual disabilities. Students explored the country of Laos and what happens to young people with Intellectual disabilities in Laos without the intervention of organisations
like Caritas and its partners.
Pancake Sale
All students were invited to purchase pancakes at recess on Shrove Tuesday with all profits from the sales going towards Project Compassion. Over $200 was raised for Caritas through the Pancake sales.
Well Done to all the senior students and staff that helped with the enormous logistical task of selling and distributing nearly 250 pancakes in once recess!
Staff V Students Cook Off
Our First Staff v Students event for 2016 was held at Recess on Shrove Tuesday with Students trying to out cook the staff with the largest size and biggest quantities of pancakes - messy fun! In the end the judges gave this competition to
the staff as their pancakes were (slightly) more edible! A fun way to begin our Project Compassion work!
