CDE Guidelines on Voice in the Schools
- ASHA recommends that voice treatment only be initiated after a medical examination
- Unable to complete medical examination in the educational setting
- Can provide services to a student who meets the criteria outlined by CDE indicating an educational impact due to voice deficits
- Treatment should mainly be vocal hygiene
- During IEP process impress upon the parents the importance of a medical evaluation to determine the etiology of the deficit
- If a medical evaluation is completed the information obtained should be included in the IEP
