The Speech and Language Itinerant Team provides essential support to our schools, ensuring that students' speech and language needs are met during times of increased caseloads, high evaluation demand, or when a Speech-Language Pathologist or SLPA is on short-term or long-term leave.
Our team members are temporarily assigned to schools to provide direct speech and language services. Please note that they do not perform before or after-school duties or conduct observations. In cases of a long-term leave, the entire itinerant team may be utilized to provide comprehensive coverage.
To ensure a smooth and productive assignment for our itinerant team members, please prepare the following:
Student Schedule: A clear schedule is essential. It should include time for student service documentation and a list of students to be seen, including their full names and classroom or location for services. A schedule should be provided even if it's not a typical day or if it's still being finalized.
Student Goals & Activities: Elaborate lesson plans are not required, but please provide a clear overview of student goals and activity ideas.
Important Context: To help the itinerant staff prepare, please give them a heads-up about any specific details, such as groups of students who are not typically seen together or any known behavioral concerns.
Request Itinerant Support
The SLP Lead will look over your request, assess the needs in the district, and then follow up with you. Please know that schools without speech language support in the building take precedence. Requests may not be granted. If a request is not granted, your school will be put on a running list to receive support when available.
