Teacher: Phase 3

Student Learning Objective (SLO) process

PHASE 3:

STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVE (SLO) PROCESS

Guidance For Teachers

1. Identify a Goal

• Determine which students will be targeted for the goal.

2. Identify or Create an Assessment that Measures the Intended Goal

• Assessments must align to the assessment categories identified by the school administration. For example, "Internal, Classroom, Summative."

• A minimum of one Student Learning Objective (SLO) must be completed in the required assessment category for CITE 6 to be complete.

• The intended assessment must be in the assessment library to be used for the Student Learning Objective (SLO) process.

3. Collect and Analyze Baseline Data

• Baseline data can be collected any time during the year.

• Baseline data should represent the beginning of a designated learning cycle.

4. Target Student Success

• Teachers will need to ensure that the learning cycle is long enough for measurable growth to occur for their students.

• Targets need to be "rigorous yet realistic" for all students.

• Teachers will need to use professional judgment about their students. It may be beneficial to consider a larger body of evidence beyond the baseline data score when setting targets.

5. Enter Final Data

• Final data may be collected any time during the year.

• Final data should represent the end of a designated learning cycle.

• Final data collection times typically should not vary for students within the same SLO.

6. Reflect on the SLO process

• What worked or didn't work?

• How well did your assessment(s) measure the intended goal(s) and growth of students?

• Were the targets you set rigorous yet realistic for all students?

• In what ways has the SLO process impacted you?
