MELODY UNIT

Level 1:

  • I can identify the melody when listening to music.
  • I can explain that a Melody consists of different pitches.
      • The pitches can ascend, descend, or repeat.
      • The pitches have to make sense together.
  • I can sing and play a melody in a variety of musical styles.
  • I can choose a pitched instrument to play a melody.

Level 2:

  • I can sing and play major, minor, and pentatonic scales.
  • I can label, sing, and perform diatonic and minor intervals.
  • I can read and perform simple and complex melodies.
  • I can compose and perform a melodic sequence.

Level 3:

  • I can differentiate between an ostinato, a motif, and a melody.
  • I can compose an ostinato, a motif, and a melody.
  • I can create a musical score with a melody written using my choice of scale or mode.
  • I can recognize melodies from a variety of musical styles.
