Notes:

What is democracy?

• • Equality

  • Independence

  • Help each other

  • Say something

  • Change the way you're living

  • Voice for all

  • No judgement

  • Be heard

What about democratic schools?

• • Good idea

  • What happens outside of school should affect what's going on inside of school

  • Concern: "a lot of kids don't want to learn" - could end up that nobody does anything

Democratic design?

• • Everyone's entitled to an opinion

  • Important to come to an agreement

  • Prove to people (UW) that it can work

  • Good idea for kids to say what's working and what's not

Design Process - concerns

• • Time - only 6 weeks til first deadline

  • People power - only 7 or 8 designers

  • Management of time

  • Attentiveness, focus, detail
