Breaking out of Confinement

Despite what you might think, the hottest matter in the Universe is not 

found anywhere in outer space. Rather, it was first produced ten years 

ago in eastern Long Island by smashing gold nuclei at nearly the speed 

of light. In this talk we will discuss the physics of nuclear matter at 

incredibly high temperature and pressure, as well as the experimental 

tools used to analyze it.
