Excursions Through Flatland: How I learned to Stop Worrying and Live in Two Dimensions
Matter is built out of particles that obey the laws of quantum mechanics but these particles themselves are minuscule. How does quantum mechanics manifest itself on the macroscopic scale and what kinds of collective phenomenon are possible? This talk will discuss new kinds of particles, called anyons, that emerge in interacting many-body systems which are restricted to two-dimensions. Caution: Parts of the talk will be (K)not theoretical!
