Small Group Counseling

Small groups provide not only opportunities for additional learning experiences but also time of growing together with fellow students.  Small groups give students a chance to belong, a chance to express themselves, and a chance to benefit from the support of group members. Groups are activity based and students typically look forward to this special time!  Students are referred to small group counseling based on a number of factors including classroom observations; parent, teacher/staff, or self-referral; and data points.  Additionally, students may be invited to attend a group as a peer buddy.

Groups will meet weekly (for a predetermined time frame) depending on the topic and needs of the students. Groups may focus on topics/objectives being taught in counseling class; further explaining or breaking down feelings/emotions, emotional regulation, friendships skills, social skills, problem solving, or conflict resolution.  Topics may also include motivation, study skills, changing families, anxieties or worries, etc.

If you think your child could benefit from participation in a small group, please fill out the "Parent Small Group Referral Form".  Please keep in mind that completing a referral does not indicate immediate placement in a group.  Mrs. T. will be in touch to discuss your concerns.  Groups do not address individual problems but rather are opportunities for more targeted learning.  If you think your child may benefit from individual counseling, please visit the individual counseling page.
