Dates for assessments (tests) are announced well in advance. Students are provided in many units of study with learning targets to use to assess progress during a unit of study. Very clear direction is given in terms of what should be done to prepare for tests.
Students have coursework to complete and review as well as related reading from textbooks. Too often students skim for answers, rather than read for understanding. Time is spent in class reading and learning how to use expository text. Time must be spent outside of class to prepare for tests. Waiting to study the night before an exam is a bad choice. Review activities are planned in many units of study to help students master knowledge, concepts, and skills.
