BUSINESS EDUCATION

 

Every Cannon Falls High School student needs to have a basic knowledge of computers and the ability to use a keyboard in order to function in our rapidly changing world.  The Business Education Department offers classes to meet that need in a variety of areas for everyone, including both college-bound and those who are going straight to work.  Business courses can also prepare students to complete everyday tasks more efficiently such as typing a term paper, balancing a checkbook and expanding their knowledge as consumers and employees.

#1806 – ADVANCED BUSINESS STUDIES

1/2 Credit

Grades 10 - 12                                                 

This course is a continuation of General Business Studies but is a more in-depth exploration into the business market within a local, national and global economy, business functions, business management, business marketing and financial accounting.  This course expands students’ understanding of business concepts with real world examples in current events at different levels of the economy.  The purpose of this course is to help prepare students who are exploring a career in business after high school. 

Prerequisite: General Business Studies recommended.

 

 

#1802 – COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

1/2 Credit

Grades 9 -12                                                                 

This course will help students learn essential computer applications and Internet technology skills for personal, academic, and professional success.  This course focuses on application software such as word processing, spreadsheeting, database, and presentation graphics.  Many other hands-on projects integrating multiple office applications are also highlighted within the curriculum.

 

 

#1807 – COMPUTER MULTIMEDIA    

1/2 Credit

Grades 10 -12                                                                                                  

The student in Computer Multimedia will use the computer to do creative work in several different types of media. Students will create web pages of their own, make movies, learn about web 2.0 tools, and use desktop publishing software among many topics.  Adobe PhotoShop will be an integral part of this class. This is a good course for anyone who likes to be creative and work independently on the computer. 

   

#1803 - GENERAL BUSINESS STUDIES

1/2 Credit

Grades 9-12

This is an introductory course which covers basic business functions, business management, business marketing, financial accounting as they relate to the business market.  In this course, you will explore basic digital communications, information technology and the use of Broadband to conduct business.  This course prepares students to apply basic business concepts to analyze, manage, evaluate and communicate how to create a successful business in a digital world.

#1804 - THE LAW AND YOU 

1/2 Credit

Grades 9 -12                                                                             

Students will study criminal law, civil actions, juvenile law, and landmark supreme court cases through a variety of activities including project based learning.  This course introduces the student to the legal rights of juveniles and adults and the responsibilities that he/she has a citizen of the United States.

 

 

 

#1805 - PERSONAL FINANCE 

1/2 Credit

Grades 9 - 12                                                             

This course explores topics such as making wise financial decisions, budgeting, consumer purchasing, banking, personal credit, and individual income tax filing.  This course is essential for all students who want to be financially educated as he/she moves past the high school classroom.

 

 

 

#1810 YEARBOOK - YEAR LONG CLASS

1 credit for both semesters

Grades 10-12

Open to Yearbook Editors and Staff

The class is designed to teach students how to use the Josten’s Yearbook Online Software and during the course of the year they will be producing the Cannon Falls Yearbook.  The course will include sales and marketing, photography, yearbook layout and design and story writing.  The students will be doing the distribution of the final book in the Spring.  There are set deadlines and students must be willing to work outside of class as well.

#9805 PERSONAL FINANCE                (ITV semester course)       Hybrid

½  Credit

Grades 10-12

As a "hybrid" class, the learning environment will combine face-to-face (ITV) meeting and online learning.   In addition, students will be required to work independently in the Moodle Online Course.  Students should be comfortable with technology, disciplined/motivated to work individually, and responsible as time managers.  Students will learn strategies necessary to become financially responsible citizens. The “Share, Save, Spend” philosophy will provide practical suggestions for making balanced, thoughtful financial decisions. Through a variety of activities, students will be exposed to current and relevant topics such as identity theft, debit and credit cards, buying a car, and much more.

 

#9809 WEB DESIGN                (ITV semester course)            Hybrid

Grades 10-12

Do you like being creative? Do you like to share information with others? Are you fascinated by computers? Welcome to Web Design.   In this course, students will be responsible for creating and maintaining web-based publications of their own writings, as well as creating a website for a business. Topics of study will include: HTML coding, computer basics, planning and creating web pages using online resources, and photo editing, to name a few.

#9808 CLEP MARKETING               (ITV semester course)       Hybrid

Grades 11-12

 As a "hybrid" class, the learning environment will combine face-to-face (ITV) meeting and online learning. In addition, students will be required to work independently in the Schoology Online Course. Students should be comfortable with technology, disciplined/motivated to work individually, and responsible as time managers.

 This course offers students the opportunity to gain knowledge and fundamental skills in the area of marketing and management. Topics include: the marketing environment; the role of product, price, promotion, and place strategies; and discussion and awareness of consumer issues. We will explore the world of sports and entertainment marketing also. Class time learning includes video cases, hands-on and computer time. Students will conduct market research on a topic and apply marketing concepts into the development of their own business plan. This is certainly an exciting and useful class for not only students interested in a future business career, but also all students from their role as consumers’ in our society.

    

#9807  WETC MultiMedia              (ITV semester course)

½ Credit

Grades 11-12                                                                                  

Students will explore many different forms and programs that exist within the world of technology today.  This will consist of learning how use Photoshop, photography, video cameras to create personal movies, etc. to broaden their range of technology that is used in our everyday lives.

 

   

#9804  WETC Law and You                             (ITV semester course)

½ Credit

Grades 10 - 12

 Students will study criminal and civil actions, law enforcement, and our court systems through a variety of activities including a mock trial.  This course teaches you about your legal rights and responsibilities as a citizen in the U.S. through practical examples and actual court cases.

Students interested in college credit are encouraged to take the CLEP Business Law test at the college of your choice.
