Based on the novel by Toni Morrison, this critically-acclaimed stage production of post-depression Ohio follows the story of Pecola Breedlove who prays for blue eyes. Not having read the novel, the IB students were moved by Pecola's story of self hatred and abuse during the November 4, 2014 matinee. Hoping that Pecola finds relief in her friendship with Frieda and Claudia McTeer who try to care for Pecola when the rest of the community fails to do so, the students came to understand how issues of race affect a person's self-image. This production examines standards of beauty, responsibility, and survival with rich language found in Morrison's original text.
