Hindu Council of Australia’s mission is to work for a strong, cohesive and active Hindu
community in Australia, aiming to live in harmony with other religious and cultural
communities while also devoted to preserving, promoting and sharing Hindu faith, culture
and traditions with others in the society.
Advocate for the religious, cultural, social and educational needs of Hindus in Australia.
Provide information for understanding of Hindu traditions, culture, philosophy and theology in Australia
Chaplains are employed on a voluntary basis.
Currently the Hindu Council of Australia is represented in CCAC by a member of HCA.
Presently Chaplaincy is done under volunteer basis only.
Following are the criteria to become a Hindu Chaplain
To be a practicing member of Hinduism
Attend information seminar regarding Chaplaincy
Completed 40 hour Clinical Pastoral Education course
Completed 6 week Hindu scriptural training
Written reference from the organisation associated with outlining the suitability for Chaplaincy, including the capacity for empathy and self-reflection.
Medical certificate stating good general health and Police check
Accept and sign the Chaplains Code of Conduct
If all the above criteria is satisfied, HCA will issue a recommendation to the secular institution.
