Purpose of Policy

The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for the endorsement of Chaplains and Pastoral Care Workers for

  1. Health Services under the authority of Health NSW,

  2. Corrective Services under the authority of Justice NSW, and

  3. Juvenile Justice facilities under the authority of Justice NSW.

Application and Scope

This policy applies to all who are affected by the scope of the agreement in the MOUs between the CCAC and Health NSW and Justice NSW. It therefore applies uniformly to all Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care services that both

  1. are subject to Member Organisations (MO) of the CCAC, and

  2. operate at any level within health services (HS), corrective services (CS) and youth justice provided by any district or organisation within Health NSW or Justice NSW.

Policy

All Chaplains and Pastoral Care Workers, who serve in any health service, corrective service, or youth justice service in a capacity that is addressed within the MOUs between the CCAC and Health NSW or Justice NSW, must be endorsed by the CCAC.

  1. This includes all Chaplains and Pastoral Care Workers whether full-time, part-time and voluntary.

  2. This does not include congregation-based visitors who are visiting their congregant.

  3. This does not apply to pastoral visitors such as clergy, family and/or friends. Congregation-based visitors may only conduct private personal visits and should not be given access to ward or institution lists.

Procedure

All applicants for endorsement by the CCAC must download complete the Application for Endorsement as a Chaplain or Pastoral Care Worker form.

Acceptance

Upon acceptance by the CCAC, successful applicants will be placed on the CCAC Register of Chaplains and Pastoral Care Workers.

Individuals may be placed on the register whether or not they are currently employed or deployed as a Chaplain or Pastoral Care Worker.

Change of Details

Changes in details must be submitted to the secretary within 7 days of any change to these details occurring on this form.

Photo and Biography

Please note the application will require the following

  1. A recent passport size photograph or driver’s licence with a photo of the applicant,

  2. A brief biography including reference to relevant formal qualifications (no more than 300 words), and

  3. Certified copies testamurs and transcripts of all qualifications listed.

This must include evidence of successful completion of education and training that

  1. has been registered as meeting the Essential Capabilities for Chaplains and Pastoral Care Workers, and

  2. meets the training requirements specified in the

Communities and Justice Coordination Deed, and/or

Health Services Memorandum of Understanding,
