6 Science Week 6 (9/27-10/1)
We are beginning Topic 2 this week, which introduces Earth's atmosphere and ultimately goes into depth about weather in the atmosphere. I'll post the plan for our work on the whole topic tomorrow (I was away from school today for Diocesan meetings), but I did assign the reading, notes, and Lesson check for T2-L1 and the students were given about 20 minutes of class time today to begin that assignment.
T2-L1 (pp. 44-55): Read, take notes, and complete T2-Lesson 1 Check, due Thursday 9/30.
Following is the plan for the next several weeks. There will likely be 1-2 pop quizzes in October as well.
T2-L1 (The Atmosphere Around You): Reading, Notes, and Lesson 1 Check due Thursday 9/30
Bring back signed T1 Test by Tuesday 10/5
T2-L2 (Water in the Atmosphere): Reading, Notes, and Lesson 2 Check due Wednesday 10/6
Test on T2 L1-L2 on Tuesday 10/12
T2-L3 (Air Masses): Reading, Notes, and Lesson 3 Check due Friday 10/15
T2-L4 (Predicting Weather Changes): Reading, Notes, and Lesson 4 Check due Wednesday 10/20

Test on Topic 2 Lessons 3-5 TBD (either Friday 10/29 or Tuesday 11/2)
This week we watched documentary called The Year Earth Changed, narrated by David Attenborough, which offers data from scientific researchers about how the Earth system and spheres (atmosphere, biosphere, geosphere, and hydrosphere) have been affected during the period of curtailed human activity due to the Covid-19 lock downs. I encourage you to ask your 6th grader for her/his impressions. The class enjoyed the film.
Science Week 5 (9/20-9/24)
We previously covered T1-L1, T1-L2, and parts of T1-L3 previously. This week we'll finish with the T1-L3 content, and we'll also review Topic 1 on Wednesday and have a test on Thursday. Students should be studying at least 15-20 minutes per night for this upcoming test. 6th grade does not have science class on Tuesday due to Scantron testing.
Outlines and slides for the three lessons are in the Materials section of the Google Classroom for 6th grade science.
Homework assignments and test announcement (there could be occasional unannounced pop quizzes too -- usually 5-15 point quizzes)
T1-L1 HW was due in week 3, and we did notes together for that section
For T1-L2: HW was due 9/15.
For T1-L3: HW was due today (Monday 9/20)
Test on Topic 1, Lessons 1-3, on Thursday 9/23
Science Week 4 (9/13-9/17)
We covered T1-L1 last week, and we'll cover T1-L2 and part of T1-L3 this week, finishing up the latter early next week.
I have issued an invitation for you to join our 6th Science Google Classroom, and the Topic 1 outlines L1-L3 are in slides that have been added to the Materials section. As of this afternoon, approximately 8 students still needed to accept the GC invitation for 6th Science. We'll spend a few minutes on GC tomorrow in class.
Homework assignments and test announcement (there could be occasional unannounced pop quizzes too -- usually 5-15 point quizzes)
T1-L1 work was due last week. We'll go over responses this week, and the kids have notes they should already be using for study purposes.
For T1-L2: Read, take notes, and complete Lesson 2 Check, due Wednesday 9/15. Please BE SURE to write the title of the section in your notes you are completing [for example: T1-L2 Surface Features in the Geosphere -- Notes].
For T1-L3: Read, take notes, and complete Lesson 3 Check, due Monday 9/20 -- please DO NOT begin this before we finish T1-L2 [for example: T1-L3 The Hydrosphere -- Notes]
Test on Topic 1, Lessons 1-3, on Thursday 9/23
Science Week 3 (9/7-9/10)
We are beginning work in the book. We will cover Topic 1, Lessons 1-3 (pp. 4-22), over the next couple of weeks. Each Topic in the book is like a unit. Sometimes we may cover 1-2 Lessons over a period for a quiz or test; other times we may cover 3-5 Lessons and have a test on a whole Topic.
I abbreviate the sections as T1-L1 (Topic 1-Lesson 1), T1-L2 (Topic 1-Lesson 2), and T1-L3 (Topic 1-Lesson3). This week (week 3) we'll work on T1-L1, next week (week 4) we'll work on T1-L2 and T1-L3, and the following week (week 5) we'll finish T3 and we'll review and have a test. I've put out the homework assignments below for this whole "unit." This is done to help students learn how to manage their time. I recommend that you start on the first one tonight, and do a bit each night, or over two nights. Once we finish the T1-L1 work, then proceed to the next section and keep reviewing your notes.
I have issued an invitation for you to join our 6th Science Google Classroom. I'll add the Topic 1 Outlines in our Google Classroom.
