May 27th Froggy Fun Day Information
Dear 6th Grade families,
Below are some updates about Froggy Fun Day, this Friday, May 27th.
There will be a Used Book Sale that students may go to before, during and and after school. If you plan on having your child go to the used book sale during school hours please send them to school on Friday with a ziplock bag of money with their name and the amount of money in the bag. The cost is 2 books for $1.
Students should come to school in their PE uniform unless they are one of the students who has earned a free dress down day for sending 10 or more pledge requests. If you are unsure if you have earned a free dress day please contact Dr. Ascunce.
Dear 6th grade families,
I am so excited to announce that BSS is bringing back the 6th Grade Renaissance Festival this year! In previous years, 6th graders portrayed members of the Renaissance Spanish and French courts in costume, completed a research project, and spoke in the languages. This year, students will complete a report and wear costumes, but our court will feature members of the Russian, French, Spanish and Italian nobility. Students will also learn phrases and pronunciation in their court’s language.
The Renaissance Festival will be held on May 26th! Parent volunteers have begun coordinating the banquet and decorations for the event. We ask that each student brings in an item for the banquet. A list of options will be sent out via sign-up genius. Please make sure to provide enough of your item for 30 people. In addition to the above, we would also appreciate parent volunteers to help setup and clean up on this day. Parents are also more than welcome to stay and watch the royal introductions and procession!
Please contact our room parents about volunteering! If you would like to help with setting up and/or would like to attend the festival I will send out an email with times to arrive closer to the date. The festivities will begin around noon and end at 2 pm and set-up will occur before that.
I know you are very excited about this event and so am I!!
Let me know if you have any questions and have a wonderful day,
Mrs. MacKnight

Thanks for everything you do to help your children comply with the mask mandate. It is important that each student comes to school with a mask on and has an extra in their backpack. The masks you provide for your child are usually the best fitting and most comfortable. The Clinic has received many questions about the types of masks that best fit elementary and middle school students, are comfortable to wear and stay up over the nose. After observation and searching the web, I would recommend looking at these websites. You will see the extra piece of cloth that comes up over the nose.

Plagiarism
I take this VERY seriously
We will review plagiarism and how to avoid it in class (several times…)
Students will also learn how to cite sources and put research into their own words
My rule: The first time a student plagiarizes they receive a 50% on the assignment and must re-do the work. The second time a student plagiarizes they receive a 0% on the assignment and must serve a detention with the Administration.
Should you have concerns or questions I am most easily reached via email at amacknight@bssva.org. I am always happy to meet virtually or in person if you have any questions or concerns you would like to discuss with me! Thank you!
