Health Education Coordinator

Term: Summer/Fall/Spring

Positions available: 1

Start Date: Fall

Application Deadline: Applications will be considered until the position is filled

DUTIES:   The Health Education Coordinator (HEC) promotes individual and community health and a healthy environment in the BSC by establishing and coordinating unit and central-level trainings, referrals, and general health promotion and advocacy efforts.  The HEC furthers a program of Harm Reduction in the units by educational workshops and conversations, health tips, and guest speakers.  The HEC is also the primary BSC student liaison with University Health Services and other health promotion organizations.  At the start of the Spring Semester, the HEC will prepare and publicize a health needs assessment to ensure relevant and effective health promotion activities in the BSC.  The HEC will implement health workshops (at least four in the Fall and two in the Spring) for the BSC membership, create at least three workshop templates each semester to support the BSC Health Workers, and provide health training during manager, health worker and social manager training each semester.  The HEC must attend a training provided by University Health Services Health Worker Program prior to the start of the Fall Semester, as well as one training per semester of the Harm Reduction Coalition, and other training.  The HEC must participate in meetings of the Member Resources Department, among other duties.

REQUIREMENTS:    The applicant should have excellent organizational skills, as well as strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.  The applicant must be able to work independently and be able to offer and receive feedback constructively.  The successful applicant must demonstrate a commitment to public health and harm reduction and be willing to seek additional training.  The applicant must be comfortable speaking in public.  Some teaching experience (for example, deCal facilitation) is strongly preferred, as is familiarity with the Health Worker Program and the resources of University Health Services.  You cannot be on the Board of Directors or hold a compensated unit-level manager position and hold a central level job.  You must be a BSC member to hold this position.

HOURS/CREDIT:  This position averages 8 hours/week for Fall/Spring, fulfilling the five-hour/week workshift obligation in the houses and providing an additional stipend for 3 hours/week at $22.00/hour.  Apartment dwellers and Summer residents will receive a rent credit stipend for the five workshift hours (at $22.00/hour), as this job does not replace the workshift requirement in these instances. This position is eligible for work-study compensation.  If for whatever reason this job begins mid-semester, the stipend will be prorated.

TO APPLY:    Submit a BSC application form (and resume if desired) online. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. Applications are available at the linked page.  For more information, contact Noah Campo at noah@bsc.coop.
