The PSAT provides practice for the SAT and qualifies students with high enough scores as National Merit Finalists. The test will be administered October 19. Registration will be open September 19-23 during all lunches in the Silver Cafeteria. BISD pays for all 10th and 11th grade students to take the PSAT. Interested 9th graders are invited to sign up to take the test for a cost of $15 (this amount is subject to change from year-to-year).
Students who live in the BISD school zone but do no currently attend a Bryan school can sign up to take the PSAT as well. Please contact our testing coordinator, Deanna Gibson, for further details: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Scores typically arrive on campus during the week of Fall final exams and are distributed in January. For information on score interpretation after the test, students should visit www.collegeboard.org and login to "My College QuickStart" using the individualized access code printed on their score sheet.
National Merit Semifinalists are announced in September. Approximately 1.5 million students in about 22,000 high schools take the PSAT. Of those students, about 16,000 are named National Merit Semifinalists and about 34,000 earn Commended designation.
SAT / ACT
The SAT and ACT are both standardized tests used in college admissions. Most colleges will accept scores from either test.
Want practice? Try March2Success for practice tests and flashcards. A local resource is Sylvan Learning. They offer free practice tests several Saturdays during the year (see below for flyer) and a powerful online testprep tool where you can take practice tests, see your score immediately, then go question-by-question to get a tutorial on the ones you missed. To get a login to use this free resource, you will need to stop by the Sylvan Learning Center at 1105 University Drive East, Suite 104.
See below to view or print a comparison between SAT and ACT.
Online registration is available on the website indicated below. Be sure to select colleges to send your scores to; this is part of the cost of the test.
