Painting

Course Description:

This semester-long, half-credit course will help you develop a strong art portfolio. Painting is an upper level art class and requires successful completion of Art 1 and is recommended for any student wishing to move on to advanced or AP Art. Students work in a demonstration/studio based atmosphere and will explore elements of painting through different painting techniques, styles and material. This course emphasizes painting not only as an art form and means of personal expression, but also as a way to increase visual literacy; understanding what and how we see. In addition to art theory and art history, you will learn ways to display art and will participate in school wide art exhibits. Student evaluation is based on in-class studio art, participation in class critiques, notes, portfolios and readings. You will have weekly sketchbook homework assignments. Homework assignments generally take between 15 - 30 solid, uninterrupted minutes of your time and attention.
