Custer Stadium

Only 3.4% of the bond funds will go toward scaled-back improvements at Custer Stadium, the largest public venue in town.

CUSTER STADIUM IMPROVEMENTS

  • New Handrails for safety on the steep bleachers

  • Fix faltering sound system

  • Replace buzzing Lights

  • Move East Side Restrooms away from track surface

Sight lines atop Custer Stadium are excellent thanks to its steep slope. But that same slope can make the steep stairways treacherous. New handrails along each stairway, like the ones already installed leading to up to the concession stand entrances, will improve safety.

The old sound system can be difficult to hear, as anyone attending the annual commencement ceremony can attest, and will be replaced in the new bond. Last May some parents at graduation were disappointed they couldn't hear their child's name being called! The old lights, which buzz noisily, are another sound problem at the stadium, and will also be replaced.

The old east side visitor restrooms and concession stands, one of which is no longer used, are awkwardly placed. During games visitors bleed out onto the costly Doornbos track surface and it can be difficult to reach the visitor stands. A new stand will be constructed near the southeast gate to Lyon Field to improve pedestrian flow and keep inappropriate footwear off the track surface.

Custer Stadium serves students from all across our district.

The east side restrooms/concessions are right up against the track, so visitors bleed out onto the expensive track surface with inappropriate footwear, and block access to and from the visitor stands.
