How to view streaming video at BHS

UPDATED INFO: THIS STREAMING IS FOR "IN SCHOOL" ONLY.

MOST LIKELY YOU'LL WANT OUR YOUTUBE LIVE STREAMING.

We have a system here at Bow High School that you can use to watch streaming video of

network TV programs on your computer.

*Note: this is only if you are connected to our network at BHS.

Here's what you need to do for this to happen:

1. First thing, you need to have a certain version of Firefox installed. It's called the ESR version. The only thing different about it

is that it still uses certain plugins that the "vanilla" version doesn't have. This link will explain it:

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/

Since, in most cases your Firefox is in need of updating anyways, you can download this version and still be up to date.

Click on this link to find your Mac or PC version:

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

2. Go to www.videolan.org to download the VLC player for your system and install it.

*Mac users note that what you need, in addition to Firefox, is the VLC plugin package. Go

here http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html . Click on the orange arrow next to

the DOWNLOAD VLC button and download the web plugin package.

3. Once you have installed them, restart your computer, open Firefox, copy and paste this address in the

Firefox address bar "http://10.15.0.10:8888" (copy in between the quotes)

If everything works you should see a box that will say something like

"Activate VLC plugin". Click on activate.

You should now see a window screen like this. Move your mouse

to the video area, make it full screen and enjoy!

*Note: The ideal use for this is in a classroom with the teacher's computer, connected to the network with a cable,

as opposed to wifi. Then projected up onto a screen. This can also work on an office computer, connected with a network cable.

Here are the potential issues you may encounter when you are watching streaming video.

If you are using a laptop with wifi, you may have video dropouts, or the screen will go black. That

means the video signal is just too much for the wifi, or there are too many people

connecting to the streamer with wifi. Sometimes all you have to do is quit Firefox then open it again.
