The Dynamic Learning Maps™ (DLM®) Essential Elements (EEs) are specific statements of knowledge and skills linked to the grade-level expectations identified in college- and career-readiness standards. EEs build a bridge from content standards to academic expectations for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. The EEs specify academic targets, while the learning map clarifies how students can reach a specified standard. For each EE, small collections of nodes are identified earlier in the map that represent critical junctures on the path toward the standard. These small collections of nodes are called linkage levels. The fourth level is the target. There are three levels below the target and one above the target. All together, the five levels make up a “mini map” for the EE.
Students who qualify for DLM are tested in ELA, Math, and Science in grades 3rd through 11th grade.

Manipulatives Needed During Testing
Teachers will need certain “manipulatives” during testing. The manipulatives are described in the Test Information Page (TIPs) pages that the teacher receives for each TESTLET. The TIPs can be accessed before testing so that teachers are ready to begin when testing time arrives. Step-by-step procedures are outlined in the Test Administration manual.
It is important for teachers to know that substitutions can be made for any suggested manipulative. The TIPs will describe the attributes of the manipulative and make suggestions. For example, if the TIP says that you will need something round like an orange, the teacher can use a ball or an apple instead. If the TIP suggests an apple but the teacher knows the student will try to eat the apple or throw the ball, the teacher can substitute something more appropriate for the student. The teacher should never use a suggested manipulative that will be upsetting to a particular student, or a manipulative that the student has never seen or used before the day of testing. The test administrator (teacher) has flexibility in what is used for the TESTLET.

Rosters (created at District level)
Students in grades 3-11 will need to be placed in a roster for ELA and Mathematics.
Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 will need to be placed in a roster for Science.
Rosters should be listed as the following:
Teacher’s last name, subject
Smith ELA
Smith Math
Smith Science
Districts do not need to identify course when creating the rosters.
Districts only need to identify ELA, Math, and Science. If any other subject is selected, it will not deliver a testlet.
