Senior Year Information

SENIOR INTERVIEW:  Schedule a meeting with Mrs. Schulting this week to review your transcript and schedule to be certain you are on track for graduation.  College and career plans will also be discussed.

CAMPUS VISITS:  Students are encouraged to make a campus visit to help find a campus that is the right “fit” for them.  College websites have contact information for scheduling a visit or the ability to schedule online.  Students can stop in the Guidance Office if they need help in setting up a campus visit.  For information about all UW Campuses and special visit days go to:

UW Journey:  new mobile application to explore UW System campuses on your phone.

UW Help:   website to find all information related to the UW System campuses.

WI Private Colleges:  website to all of WI Private colleges.

WI Technical Colleges:  website for all WI Technical colleges.

Career Cruising:  online site to research career and colleges.  See Mrs. Schulting for user/password.

Four Year Colleges: The window for reviewing applications begins September 15 for all UW Campuses and applications should be submitted by December 1.  After that date, colleges could reach their enrollment caps at any time and begin turning away students.  While many colleges will continue to take applications throughout the year, the longer one waits the more likely she/he will be turned away.  Applications can be found on each college’s website.

To complete an application for any UW Campus go to:

Private College applications can be found by visiting their webpage.

A college application is not complete until the following have been submitted:

  • Application
  • Fee
  • Test scores
  • High school transcript

Technical Colleges:  Applications to the Wisconsin Technical College System should be sent as soon as possible during the fall. Vacancies in the various programs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Some programs close out early which forces late applicants onto a waiting list.

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS:  There is a file for each scholarship received in the guidance office.  The files are kept in deadline date order and both parents and students are invited to stop by to review these materials. Copies of each scholarship are maintained in the file cabinet in the Guidance Office entrance area with the originals kept in my file in case more copies are needed.  There are no scholarships available at this time.  Many more will come available by December/January and I will develop a scholarship newsletter to keep you updated on what is available.

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS:  This process begins in early February when the scholarship committee meets to set up time lines and review application procedures. The committee consists of two teachers, two school board members, two community members, an administrator, and the high school counselor. Application forms will be distributed in March with a deadline in early April.

SCHOOL TO WORK: If you plan to transition directly into the work force after high school, there are many options to help you prepare.  One such option is the JOBS Center in Dodgeville, operated by the state of Wisconsin.  Job listings are available there, as well as other employment-related services.  Students at Barneveld High School also have the opportunity for various school-to-work programs such as Youth Apprentice programs, work-study and job shadowing.

September 12, 13, 14 and 15:  College Application Work Days –work on college applications during PIE with help from Mrs. Schulting.  Tuesday, September 12th is a required senior meeting; September 13th, 14th and 15th are optional work days.

October 6:  Wisconsin Education Fair (UW-Platteville) – approximately 100 different college and military recruiters are on hand to visit with students.  This offers a good opportunity for students who have not made a decision about post-secondary career or education plans.  Some financial aid information is also available.  A tour of the UW-Platteville campus will follow the education fair.  We will leave at 9:00AM and return by 2:00PM.
