Junior Year Information

Job shadowing - This allows for the student to leave school and work with someone in the career field of choice.  Interested students can stop in the Guidance Office for help with setting up a job shadow.

Junior Individual Planning Conference – This is a meeting during 1st semester of Junior year with student, parent and Mrs. Schulting to discuss high school and career planning.  A letter or email will be going to parents in September.

Campus Visits - College campuses all across Wisconsin offer opportunities to tour their facilities and classrooms.  Recruiters from many public and private institutions visit the school from time to time throughout the year.  Announcements will be made to notify students of dates and times of visits.  A current list of college reps visiting Barneveld is also available on my webpage at:  https://sites.google.com/a/barneveld.k12.wi.us/guidance/

Youth OptionsJuniors and Seniors can take college level courses while in high school.  These courses need to be approved by the district and are paid for by the district.  To apply for Youth Options, the application must be submitted to Mr. Stousland for approval.    Deadlines are October 1st for spring semester classes and March 1st for Fall semester classes.  The application is available at:  http://dpi.wi.gov/youthoptions

Wisconsin Education Fair – This will be held at UW-Platteville on Friday, October 5th.  There will be about 100 different representatives there from two and four year schools, both public and private, as well as military recruiters.  Students will need to complete and return a permission slip to attend this event.  A tour of the UW-Platteville campus will follow the education fair.  We will leave at 9:00AM and return by 2:30PM.

PSAT (Pre Scholastic Aptitude Test) – This is offered Wednesday, October 11th – 8:00AM – 12:00PM at Barneveld.  The cost will be $16/student.  This test is good practice for the college entrance tests, ACT or SAT that students will take later this year.  This test also can qualify the top scoring students for the National Merit Scholarship worth several thousand dollars.  To register for the PSAT, students may sign up with Mrs. Schulting or on Google doc.

ASVAB - Students interested in the military are encouraged to take the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Test.  This test is mandatory for those planning on service in the military and is highly recommended for those who would like feedback on civilian career fields for which they might have an aptitude. Military recruiters are available to provide further assistance and information during school visits.

ACT (College Entrance Test)  All students in Wisconsin will take the ACT.  It is necessary for entrance into a four-year college but has also become part of the Wisconsin state-wide assessment system.  It will be offered here on February 27, 2018 with a makeup testing date of March 20.  If you wish to take the test early or retake the test to improve your scores, there are options in the spring and fall to do so.  Re-takes will not be paid for by the district.  If you wish to register for additional test dates, go to the ACT website:  www.actstudent.org.
