Strategic Development

Strategic Development Planning

Strategic planning is a priority in the Lake Geneva Schools. Starting in 2002, our district brought in a third party to assist the strategic development team with the formation of our objectives and goals. Stakeholders from the district as well as from the community made valuable contributions to the plan. In 2003, the Lake Geneva Schools gathered and performed item analysis of WINSS and enGauge survey data. They invited back the third party assistance to evaluate progress toward current goals in 2006 and amended goals to reflect needs brought to light by the survey data. The Boards of Education and the Superintendent asked in October 2007 for the Strategic Development Team to assess current goals, develop action plans targeting goals that have not yet been attained, and form new goals. Much work is currently being done to update the plan. The Superintendent called together a 42 person team and presented proposed changes by the team seeking further input from the public for the purpose of improvement from all interested groups including the Boards of Education, administration, teachers, students, parents and community members. In 2008, the community had 3 opportunities to give their opinions on future planning for the districts. Public input sessions were scheduled for January 2008 at Badger High School. The Superintendent considers public input as an important part of the process and the district will embrace the input from the residents. This gives the public a great opportunity for involvement in our schools, and provides valuable input for the direction of our schools in the future. In 2011 the Board determined that current strategic plan goals were being met and that new goals should be developed. In November of 2011, the strategic planning committee gathered to develop SMART GOALS. Background was provided by Dr. Jim Sorenson - retired superintendent of Delevan-Darien School District. The team split into focus groups to begin writing. The Board and the Superintendent approved the SMART GOALS which are to be the new focus. The following 5 goals were adopted by the Board and are currently established.

Goal #1:

Students will continue to demonstrate yearly academic growth focusing on areas of reading and mathematics. Growth will be measured by district standardized assessments and progress monitoring tools. This will include increased coordination of math and reading instruction through district leadership.

Strategies:

1. To establish 4K-12 math and literacy coordinator(s) to assist teachers on interventions and instructional practices.

2. Establish monthly meetings for 4K-12 math and reading teachers.

Goal #2:

By 2013, the framework for Response to Intervention will be in place for students 4K-12. Students who struggle or need enrichment will be provided additional learning opportunities based on best practices. Interventions will take place at a variety of times during the day (before, during, and after) in identified curricular areas. Progress will be monitored using a variety of assessments (MAP, formative, summative) throughout the school year.

Strategies:

1. Time plan in place for teachers to meet.

2. Staff research assessment possibilities to collect data.

3. Implement assessments the following year.

Goal #3:

Align all curriculums with Common Core Standards in an easy to access format by 2014.

Strategies:

1. Provide professional development in common core literacy standards (includes social studies, science) as well as common core standards for math.

2. Provide data management training and accessibility and common assessments to monitor progress.

3. Allocate resources for data management and disbursement.

4. Provide time to align curriculum to common core.

5. Students need to set goals for their learning and participate in progress monitoring

Goal #4:

We will continue to support and maintain a high level of education for all students by offering mentorship programs, career based programs and authentic learning experiences by May 2013.

Strategies:

1. Continue to provide adequate financial resources.

2. Community service by staff and students through Senior Projects, etc. and establish new programs as necessary.

3. Establish a middle school eighth grade community service “Promotion Project” by the

2014/2015 school year.

Goal # 5:

Implement and improve 4K-12 programs that would develop positive student leaders. Student leaders will be visible and help increase student responsibility among peers. That will be measured by a yearly increase in the number of students participating in clubs and activities and a decrease in disciplinary referrals.

Strategies:

1. Continue to implement and improve opportunities for student involvement 4K-12 in all areas

including academic, athletic, the arts, etc.

2. Establish and promote opportunities for students to demonstrate leadership.

3. Examine leadership possibilities on a 4K-12 basis.
