Getting Stuff

At some point, there will come a time when you will need to get things. In most cases, the Math/Science administrative assistant at your campus will be the one to contact. If nothing else, he or she will likely be able to tell you whom you need to see.

Audio-Visual Equipment

Very soon, all of the college’s classrooms will have a computer projector. Amazing, but true. In addition, the folks in the Media Centers are usually very helpful in providing equipment such as multimedia carts, camcorders and digital cameras.

Chemicals

If a laboratory exercise needs a chemical that is not in the current Work Area Chemical Inventory list (known as the WACI), you will need to work with the science lab tech at your campus and the Safety Coordinator. All new chemical purchases must be approved by the EHS office and this process may take several weeks.

For legal reasons, ACC cannot accept chemicals that are brought in without going through the regular purchasing procedures. In other words, you can't bring a glass of acid to school from the vat in your basement. Along the same lines, all chemical waste must be disposed of properly.

Computers

All instructors may use the computers reserved for faculty in the learning resource centers at each campus. Both PC's and Macs are available.

Full-time and adjunct faculty computers are replaced on a regular, four-year basis. The College-Wide Technology Committee also replaces laptop computers on a regular cycle, and one may replace a desktop computer with a laptop under most circumstances (or vice-versa). If you have any questions, you can contact Tracie German at 223-1177, or June Mullin at 223-2984.

Equipment

If there is any equipment or supplies that you need for your class, please contact the science lab assistant at your campus. They should be able to help you. Materials that need to be purchased may take several weeks to arrive, so plan ahead.

Requests for new capital equipment in a setting in which it did not previously exist (such as a new program or a new lab) must be submitted during the Master Plan development process. Upgrades and replacement of equipment for existing programs is part of the budget development process. These requests are reviewed by the College-Wide Technology and Capital Outlay Committee and prioritized college-wide. If a piece of capital equipment vital to student instruction fails catastrophically and cannot be repaired, go to http://www3.austincc.edu/it/eforms/forms_int/INTE.002.pdf and submit a request for an emergency replacement.

Keys

Usually, only full-time employees may have keys to offices, classrooms, labs, and prep areas. If there is a justified need for having a key to a given room, you will need to fill out a Key Request Form available at the Campus Police Office or at the ACC Forms web site. The form must be signed by the Department Chair and Campus Manager, and it usually takes a few weeks for the keys to come in if they are not in stock.

Library Materials/ Publications

The ACC Learning Resource Centers have on-line links to many publication directories. They also have an agreement (called TexShare) with the University of Texas and other institutions that allows ACC faculty and staff to borrow materials from them. For checking out materials from the ACC Library, though, all one usually needs is an ACC ID. Please contact your friendly, neighborhood librarian for additional information.

Office Supplies

The Math/Science administrative assistants at your campus are the providers of most office supplies. With any luck, they will have the materials you need on hand.

Paychecks

All employees are now required to have direct deposit. If, however, a special check is cut (usually because of an error somewhere along the line), that check will be available at the cashier's desk at the Service Center on Tuscany Way. If you are expecting such a check, it’s a good idea to call the cashier at the Service Center.
