Module Objectives:  

Utilizing critical reasoning and the nursing process, the student is expected to:

Teaching

1. Discuss the rationale for patient teaching, including its benefits and purposes

2. Describe the teaching-learning process including domains of learning and principles of effective teaching

3. Identify factors that affect patient learning

4. Identify strategies for effective teaching

5. Describe the components of health literacy

6. Identify nursing strategies that address inadequate health literacy

Family

1. Identify the major areas of family forms and factors influencing family forms

2. Identify and discuss the approaches to family-centered nursing care

3. Identify the attributes of healthy families 

4. Describe assessing, planning and implementing family-centered care

5. Discuss interventions to assist family as caregivers

Critical Thinking and Clinical Judgment

1. Differentiate between critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and clinical judgment in nursing practice

2. Explain how nurses use critical thinking and the nursing process to recognize cues, make clinical judgments, and guide patient care.

3. Differentiate between the levels of critical thinking in nursing practice

4. Identify the components of critical thinking that influence clinical judgment

5. Describe the critical thinking attitudes that support effective clinical judgment

6. Examine the components of evaluation to develop clinical judgment skills
