Utilizing critical reasoning and the nursing process, the student is expected to:
1. Gather data from your patient's chart prior to clinical experience
2. Identify the medications your patient is to receive
3. Use the nursing process to plan for care related to the patient's medications
4. Administer medications to assigned patient
5. Evaluate the effects of the medications
6. Identify the signs and symptoms of possible side effects
7. Identify the methods of securing narcotics
8. Use critical thinking skills to make decisions about medication administration
9. Identify teaching needs related to medication administration
10. Work effectively with the health care team to communicate about medication administration
11. Discuss the use of material and human resources to assure effective, comprehensive medication administration
12. Discuss ethical principles and legal guidelines for medication administration
