Grading for Learning - Woodbury Middle School

Assessments:

• • Formative: Formal or informal assessment conducted by teachers during the learning process in order to modify teaching and learning activities to improve student attainment.

  • ≤ 20% of a student’s grade

  • Summative: Formal assessment used to evaluate student learning, skill acquisition, and academic achievement at the conclusion of a defined instructional period, typically a chapter, unit, or project.

  • ≥ 80% of a student’s grade

Missing work:

• • Students will have two weeks to turn in late work.

  • If turned in within the two week period, no points will be deducted for being late.

  • If the late work is not completed within the two week period, students will receive 50% for the assignment.

Test Retakes:

• • Parents will be notified if their student earns below 70% on a summative assessment.

  • Students will have two weeks to retake the assessment.

  • Students will be required to bring in a signed retake slip in order to retake an assessment.

  • Students who earned 80% or above on the original assessment will keep their retake score.

  • Students who earned below 70% on the original assessment will keep the highest score.
