Read all of the directions below in which I explain today's assignment. You will be completing the assignment on a Google slide provided in Schoology. The assignment is titled, Lifeline. It is a blueprint of your past, present and your imagined future self.
Here are the directions along with a link to a finished assignment example that you can click on below.
I had you answer 4 questions on the last slide in the presentation about your future which will help you in this assignment.
1. You are going to reflect on your past and also imagine your dreams and goals for your life 20 years into the future ... yes all the way till 2040!! You'll be 33 or 34 or maybe a few of you may be turning 35!! They'll be no more global pandemic and who knows where you will live and what you'll be doing...only you can create your future. I have attached an example of one of my past student's lifelines.
2. Start with the day you were born and list important events and milestones from your past and present. List all of these things on the left side of the Lifeline because they are your past and present.
3. Next (from age 15 and on up) you are going to imagine your future and all of its possibilities.
You are the architect of your future so no one else can tell you that it is not possible if you believe that it is and work hard toward a goal.
4. List all of your imagined future events and milestones (these things have not happened yet) but you would like them to become reality in your future. So, on the right side of your Lifeline in the text box start with where you will attend high school and go from there listing things that you would like to accomplish.
To see a good example of a past student's Lifeline assignment click here.
5. When you have completed your Lifeline submit it to me in Schoology.
If you missed our live virtual class this morning in Google meetings, you can watch
this video with the directions from Mrs. Ehrlich.
Watch the following videos about some famous people.
4. Read this article about 16 famous people who met with adversity and overcame it in their lives.
5. After watching the videos and reading the article above, go to the assignment titled "Famous Person Report" below and select a person for your report and read ALL directions for this project. Look at the sample report at the bottom of the directions to see what an excellent report looks like.
6. Submit your completed report to me in Schoology. The assignment is due Friday and is worth 20 summative points. video link to watch with the instructions for today's assignment.
Above is a list of many famous people of the 20th and 21st centuries. Some were politicians, entrepreneurs, scientists, inventors, entertainers, athletes and humanitarians. All have left or are leaving their mark on society in some way. All have also met with adversity (difficult times in their life that they overcame) at some point along their journey. Select a person from the list or come up with your own individual selection (but make sure they have contributed positively in some way to society. You are going to create a one page report of at least 300 words (use word count). You need to include:
Information about their childhood….where and when they were born, their family, where they grew up/live
Their educational background
Their career
How they have overcome difficulties in their life
What they have done to help the world
Create a one page report on that person in your own words. You must have at least 3 paragraphs in your report an intro paragraph, a middle and a closing paragraph. You are going to type your report on a Google Doc and the title of your report should be the name of the person and the sub-title is Your Name.
Make sure that you do not plagiarize (copy and paste from the internet….put everything in your own words). When you are done put a small picture of the person at the top of your report, and submit your finished report to me in Schoology. This is worth 20 summative points.
Click here to see the Sample Report to understand what a good job looks like. You can't choose Oprah since that is the sample.

Created an acrostic with the word GRIT, and you took a GRIT assessment to see how much "GRIT" you had. Watch this TED Talk about Grit given by Angela Duckworth who was a Middle School math teacher and the creator of the GRIT assessment.
A true story that happened at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Derek Redmond was an Olympian who was supposed to be considered a contender for a medal but whose dreams were dashed after an injury during the race. He persisted to finish his competition and certainly displayed "perseverence and grit". The stands gave him a standing ovation, not because he won a medal but because he showed such GRIT! GRIT is an admirable quality to possess.
