ART FOUNDATIONS

This foundation course will explore the elements and principles of art through a variety of projects both two-dimensional and three-dimensional. Projects will be inspired by integrating art history and other subjects across the curriculum. This course is a prerequisite for all other art courses. Semester course.
2D DESIGN: Draw It, Paint It, Print It
Credit: 0.50 Fine Art Grade: 9-12 Prerequisite: Art Foundations or ART 1010 with “C” or better
For the student who does not want to specialize in a certain area but wants to explore art media two dimensionally. This course is a continuation of Art Foundations and will encourage further development in foundation skill through design concepts using various two-dimensional media. Focus will be on using previous knowledge of the elements and principles of design. Materials and techniques may include printmaking, drawing, painting, computer, photography, collage, or mixed media.
3D DESIGN: Sculpt It, Carve It, Build It
Credit: 0.50 Fine Art Grade: 9-12 Prerequisite: Art Foundations or ART 1010 with “C” or better Do you enjoy constructing three-dimensional objects? Explore the world of sculpture through a variety of media and processes while continuing to study the importance of the elements and principles of art within your work. This is a studio-based class that builds upon the design concepts from Art Foundations. Materials you will be working with may include clay, paper mache, wood, metal, plaster, or found objects. This course is designed for the student who does not want to specialize in a specific area and likes hands-on activities.
DRAWING
Credit: 0.50 Fine Art Grade: 10-12 Prerequisite: Art Foundations or ART 1010 with “C” or better
For the student interested in learning how to draw more than a stick figure. Learn to see how to create art from the environment. This course provides practice in observing, recording, and interpreting what is seen, felt and understood. A variety of media will be explored with emphasis on developing a personal approach to drawing.
PAINTING
Credit: 0.50 Fine Art Grade: 10-12 Prerequisite: Art Foundations or ART 1010 with “C” or better
For the student that loves to experiment with painting media. This course offers the opportunity to explore watercolor, tempera, acrylic, and mixed media to create meaningful painting compositions. (Previous drawing experience recommended.)
JEWELRY MAKING
Credit: 0.50 Fine Art Grades: 10-12 Prerequisite: Art Foundations or ART 1010 with “C” or better
Does Pinterest or Etsy spark your creative interest? Learn simple jewelry making techniques and create your own jewelry to adorn yourself (rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets and keychains). Explore a variety of media (wire, metal, glass, and found objects) while personalizing your own accessories. Safety goggles/glasses required.
CERAMICS: Pottery Made Easy
Credit: 0.50 Fine Art Grades: 10-12 Prerequisite: Art Foundations or ART 1010 with “C” or better
Do you want to create pottery that is easy to make and something that you can use? Have you wanted to learn how to throw on the potter’s wheel? If so, this class is for you. You will explore fun and easy construction techniques for clay along with exciting ways to decorate your ceramic pieces with glazes and beyond. Choose whether you want to work on the potter’s wheel or hand build your clay pieces. (Those that have taken Sculpture and Ceramics could specialize in handbuilding or throwing in this course.)
INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER GRAPHICS AND ANIMATION

Want to learn how to market yourself and learn 21st century tools of the design trade? This is the course for you. Learn the basics of logo design, creative advertising, animation, and basic elements of video game design. (New or adjusted information will be added for those that have taken Computer Graphics.)
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: Using Today’s Technology

Do you like Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and Twitter? Want to learn how to use your cell phone or digital camera to it’s fullest potential as well as customize your personal photos in creative ways so you stand out from the crowd. Learn how to use photo manipulation software and transform your everyday photos into totally awesome works of art! (Those that have taken Photo Tech or Computer Graphics this course is more focused on photo manipulation and using your cell phone or digital camera for photography. A digital camera could be a point and shoot or dSLR.)
AP ART HISTORY
Full year Credit: 1.0 Fine Art Grade: 10-12 Highly Recommended: Art Foundations
AP Art History offers serious students the opportunity to explore architecture, sculpture, painting and other media of ancient civilizations to the contemporary from cultures around the world. Students will be welcomed into the global art world as active participants engaging with its forms and content as they research, discuss, read, create, and write about art and artists. As part of the course we will take a trip to the Toledo Museum of Art. This course will be structured around the big ideas and essential questions of the AP Art History Course and Exam Description. Many colleges and universities offer advanced placement and/or Arts and Humanities credit to students who perform successfully on the AP Art History Exam.
In order to prepare for the test, students will be required to complete extensive work outside of class.

Did you know you need at least one Arts and Humanities credit for most degrees and this course fulfills that requirement for many universities? This course is designed for NON-ART majors. It is for students going into other majors such as business, science, etc. You will be learning about the art world and it’s impact on society as well as creating art to gain an appreciation for the arts. This is an introductory college course.
