Married love mirrors the Lord’s internal union of good and truth, and grows through the same virtues that make us good friends, colleagues, and neighbors
A webpage designed to support students currently enrolled in Senior Boys Religion class at the Academy of the New Church Secondary Schools.
This course explores the New Church theology of marriage love (Conjugial Love) as revealed by Emanuel Swedenborg, placing it in dialogue with history, sociology, psychology, and contemporary research. Students begin by contextualizing Swedenborg and the work itself, then examine the history of marriage as an institution and its impact on society. The course investigates both the Divine origins of marriage and its human expressions, considering how freedom, consent, and commitment shape healthy relationships. Students study both the ideals and the challenges of marriage, including conflict, disorder, and recovery, with a strong emphasis on personal application, ethical awareness, and respectful dialogue. The goal is to equip students with a deep understanding of how conjugial love reflects the marriage of Love and Wisdom in the Lord, and why this vision matters for individuals, relationships, and society.
