A webpage designed to support students currently enrolled in Junior Girls Religion class at the Academy of the New Church Secondary Schools.
How we understand ourselves, our purpose, and our relationship with the Lord shapes the way we live. This course begins with an introduction to the concept of worldviews and the idea that everyone has a framework for interpreting life. From there, students explore the history of Swedenborg, the Academy, and the New Church, before turning to the Heavenly Doctrines as presented in New Jerusalem and Its Heavenly Doctrine. Emphasis is placed on teachings about God, humanity, freedom, love, and responsibility. Students will consider how the Lord makes Himself known through the Word, how the inner and outer selves interact, and how the choices we make shape the people we become. Throughout the course, attention is given to how these teachings guide people toward becoming angels in heaven—the Lord’s ultimate goal for all humanity.
