Margaret Gillian Moss, affectionately known as Gillian, passed away in the early hours of today, January 4. Originally from England, Gillian arrived in Barranquilla, Colombia, in the 1970s as part of her doctoral studies. It was there that she fell in love with both the sea and Latin America. She was a tireless advocate for the use of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) in linguistic and educational research. A pioneer as one of ALSFAL's founders, she was a mentor and a dear friend to many. Today, we are deeply saddened by her departure. We will always remember her firm voice, her conceptual clarity, and her relentless work to disseminate SFL throughout Latin America.
Our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy go out to her family and friends.
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Professor Leila Barbara from PUC-SP, Brazil. Leila Barbara was one of the founders of ALSFAL and its emeritus president. She was also one of the founders of LAEL PUC-SP, the first graduate program in Applied Linguistics in Brazil. We would like to acknowledge her significant contribution to the development of LSF in Latin America and remember her with great affection.
