Learning Target: Students will analyze the presence of different types of power and how those types of power impact character relationships in the play. They will discuss these findings with classmates.
TQE: Power Plays
- One of the essential questions for this unit is “When is it appropriate to challenge the beliefs or values of a society?” Part of the issue of Act I is determining who is making the rules for the society or if there are altruistic members of the community. Consider the ways the character personalities and relationships are already complicating a response to this question.
- Is anyone in Act I acting according to traditional Puritan beliefs/values? If not, what seems to be “muddying the waters”?
