Marking Period 1

All or Joint Academy News and Events

CABARET NIGHT: The Choir and Drama Clubs joined together for their second annual Cabaret Night to raise money for the Musical. The evening featured a variety of performances. The Cabaret is a great opportunity for Drama students to highlight their singing, or other students to try a new genre. Students in either the Academy or related clubs were able to audition and perform.

Spirit Week: The Academy participated in spirit week to show their Red Hawk pride! Even Mrs. Volpe and Ms. Chambers joined for Twin Day.

Back to School Night and Open House: Academy students volunteered for these events to share their knowledge of their Academy and to promote ACIT.

Congratulations to the following students who signed up for and were selected as Mentors for the Freshmen: Georgia Noon, Nina Roe, Gabrielle Sangataldo, Yafreisy Suriel, Jaymena Ware in addition to several Club members.

Freshmen

Q1 Showcase: Each marking period the Freshmen perform in one of the three disciplines in the Academy. The students explore the area and challenge themselves to try something that may be new or out of their comfort zone. Parents are invited to attend.

Congratulations Marissa Baggstrom for being named Red Hawk of the Month for the Freshmen Class for the Month of October!

Drama

Senior Drama Showcase: The senior class put together a full length Fall Drama Production entitled The Curious Savage. They produced the show from start to finish including publicity, directing, and set. The story is that of Ethel Savage whose greedy step-children have her admitted to a mental institution after she has taken her fortune and hid. She sends them on a wild goose chase to prove what lengths they would bo for the money. She befriends the patients at the home along the way. This comedy culminates in a moving moment that speaks of life and what really matters.

The seniors were able to have professional headshots taken by Ms. Lentz.

Sophomores and Juniors: Drama students are exploring the chronological history of Theatre. They study the period and the styles from that time. Through performance, students can see how these past theatrical styles influence the entertainment today. Some performances students covered in the first marking period are Roman Pantomime, Middle Age Drama, and Commedia dell'Arte of the Italian Renaissance. The use of masks in the pantomine help performers utilize their bodies to tell a story.

STOCKTON UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE DANCE DAY

ACIT Dance Academy Students attending Stockton University's Experience Dance Day where they took a variety of dance classes including Modern, Ballet, Hip Hop, Pilates, Contemporary and Improvisation.

On November 16th, the ACIT Dance Academy students attended an educational performance by the Philadanco Dance Company at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company performed a series of modern dances that challenged the students thinking of what it takes to be a professional modern dancer. The students were able to participate in a brief question and answer session, stimulating the brains of the dancers.
