General
Traditional Classroom (practice problems at night)
A traditional classroom will have "lectures" followed by a short period where I will check to see if students were able to understand the topic of the day (i.e., practice problems). There will be very little time in class to complete traditional homework assignments
Homework will consist of practice problems from the textbook, a worksheet, or a previously provided problem set. Homework will be due the class period following assignment unless otherwise specified in class. Homework will be graded for completion and spot-checked for accuracy daily.
Flipped Classroom (practice problems in class)
In a flipped classroom, students will be introduced to upcoming lessons as homework and will complete the traditional homework during class. This will allow me to assist the students as they work on obtaining fluency in their mathematical problem solving skills. The work from classroom activities will be graded from completeness and accuracy on a daily basis.
Homework will typically consist of reading the upcoming section of the textbook, watching one or more video clips, and possibly working through some example problems. You will be expected to take notes and complete all of the example problem assigned. Your notes will be graded for completeness and accuracy the first school day of each week.
Independent Study
Homework will consist of practice problems from the textbook, a worksheet, or a previously provided problem set. Some homework assignments may require online access. Therefore, review the assignments carefully. Traditional homework will be collected the first school day of each week and will be graded for completion and spot-checked for accuracy.
Homework Grades
In some cases you will not receive a deduction for incomplete problems under the following conditions:
Late Homework
Homework and classwork will be accepted for full credit on the day it is due. Homework that is late will receive a penalty. Failure to make up assigned work within a reasonable amount of time (one day maximum for each day missed) will result in a grade of NS (Not Submitted), or a 1.0/5.0 (20%/100%), for the assignment. Following an absence, the previous assignments from the last day present are due on the day the student returns to class (it will not be considered late if turned in at this time). Work assigned during a prearranged absence is due on the day the student returns to school. Arrangements must be made within two days of the student’s return to school, following an unscheduled absence, to make up any missed assessments.
If you miss a class due to a school function, including a sporting event or field trip, you are still expected to complete the homework and submit it as scheduled. All homework assignments will be posted on my website, be available within Google Classroom or Pirate-Learning as applicable, and in the daily lesson plan for the class.
